About the Event

This course runs across 3 evenings & is a brilliant fun introduction to weaving on a small loom. For top sustainability & DIY ethic, we’ll be making our looms on picture frames & exploring recycling fabrics & unusual materials to weave.

You’ll learn how to warp up your loom, make tassels, weave shapes, loops, soumak & roving. Once you finish your woven piece, you’ll take it off the loom & prepare it for hanging. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills & confidence to continue exploring this wonderful craft & play with more ideas & materials.

Almost all materials & equipment will be provided. Please bring your own hammer to the first workshop to create your loom. We have a couple of spares if you don’t own one or aren’t able to borrow one for the evening. You can also bring your own A4/A3ish picture frame if you want to, but we’ll have plenty to choose from. There will be lots of yarn, fabrics & other materials to experiment with in your weaving, but you’re welcome to bring your own materials as well. Please note that you will be able to leave your loom in the shop between classes but we cannot accommodate lots of materials, so you’ll need to take those home with you after each class.

Your tutor is Lucy Rowan aka Peas and Needles. Lucy is a weaving artist who infuses her love of sculpture via basketry & 3D design. Author of Punch Needle Embroidery & Conscious Crafts Pottery, she also teaches punch needles & macrame & has written tutorials for numerous craft & interiors magazines. In 2018, Lucy appeared on TV show Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas, teaching Kirstie Allsop how to create natural dyes.
