Upcycled Funky Shoulder Bag

Sew a shoulder bag by repurposing an old jacket in this three hour creative workshop. Vicki will guide you through the decision making to select different features of your jacket to use in fun new ways & help you make the best cuts. You’ll have a lovely new bag to take away with you that helps keep textiles out of landfill.

All equipment & materials will be provided for this workshop, including a selection of jackets to choose from. You are very welcome to bring your own jackets for repurposing, so long as they are woven fabrics. Feel free to ask beforehand if you’re unsure. Mens blazers are ideal & they can be in damaged condition as patching & repairs add to the charm of your finished bag. If you’re bringing an old jacket, we recommend washing & hanging to dry before you bring it to the class, even if that’s not recommended for your jacket. It’s far nicer to work with a clean garment than a dirty one.

Vicki Halliday is the co-owner of The Good Stitch. Before she opened the shop, she worked in theatre & higher education, as a Costume Supervisor, Wardrobe Manager & Costume Maker. Vicki loves sharing the joy of sewing & creating with textiles. She is a patient teacher who believes in the power of self-learning, guiding her students to find that Aha moment & to reach their sewing goals.
