About the Event

Sew a swimming costume in a day with Rosie Carne, designer of the Maggie Swimsuit pattern. The pattern is designed for success with learners in mind, a straightforward one-piece with elasticated edges for a secure fit, with options for high or low back neckline & additional straps. Rosie will help you to make pattern adjustments for your own bespoke fitting costume, plus you’ll learn how to cut & sew lycra fabrics & sew the stretched elastic edges.

You’ll get your own printed copy of the Maggie pattern to use on the day plus a digital copy of the pdf to keep & use again. The class includes everything you’ll need - elastic, thread & of course fabric. We have 9 beautiful fabrics to choose from, plus swim lining. You’ll sew on our Janome sewing machines & we will provide all the equipment for you to use in the class. You are very welcome to bring your own swimwear fabrics if you prefer, refer to the pattern on Etsy for requirements.

The pattern fits UK sizes 6/8 to 22/24. If you are concerned about the sizing, please get in touch so we can prepare the pattern as required.

This class is suitable for intermediate sewists, anyone who has sewn a couple of garments with a sewing machine, even if this the first time sewing stretch fabrics. It is not suitable for absolute beginners. The class size is limited to only 3 people.

We encourage you to wear leggings or tights on the day so you feel comfortable to try on your swimming costume to check the fit during the class. We have a completely private fitting space as well as a pull out screen in the shop.

Please be aware that we have a full day for this class, but you may finish earlier. As this is the first time running this class, we’d rather maximise the available time than run too short. There will be a 30 minute lunch break.

Rosie Carne is a freelance costume maker & tailor for film & theatre with more than 15 years experience in the industry plus 10 years experience teaching for Northbrook College. Rosie’s lessons have always been popular, she has oodles of patience & the ability to make adjustments to suit all learning styles. The Maggie swimsuit was created after panicking about what to wear for swimming lessons with kids when swimsuits don’t fit a long torso & bikini confidence has gone!
