About the Event
This two-part course will teach you all the essentials to start your knitting journey with confidence. As well as knit & purl stitches, you’ll learn how to cast on & cast off your knitting in the first lesson. In the second lesson, you’ll practice increases & decreases for shaping, you’ll learn how to read patterns & what all the abbreviations mean. You’ll start a small knitted heart project that lets you practice all the stitches & skills you’ve learned in the course. Rachael will share her top tips for sourcing patterns & picking out the right yarn for your projects.
This course will give you all the skills you need to start knitting with confidence, it is designed for the complete beginner so no experience is expected, however it is also suitable for people who have had a long break from knitting & would like a refresher on the basics. These lessons are taught in small groups so that there will be plenty of time to ask questions and get 1:1 help with your knitting.
All materials are provided including a pair of bamboo knitting needles for you to keep & wool yarn in a range of colours to practise with. You are welcome to bring your own needles & yarn if you already have them, but we recommend that you have a go with the materials we have carefully selected.
Rachael Kay has been knitting for as long as she can remember, teaching knitting skills locally since 2009. She is also a tutor at the Weald and Downland Museum & recently had an article published in Knitting Magazine. Rachael loves sharing her passion for this traditional craft & will gently guide you through the skills you need and before you know it you will be knitting!
