About the Event
This traditional form of hand-quilting is made with scraps of fabrics, arranged & stitched from the edge to the middle of the work, so that when the last piece of fabric is stitched in, it is finished. Liz will show you all the techniques to make a piece of Kawandi quilted cloth, using fabric scraps, cotton batting & the backing prepared for you so you can get right into the work. This is such a great stash busting project & Liz will guide you to select a colour palette to work with.
Kawandi quilting has a long history hailing from the Siddi people of African descent now living in India & quilts are made with waste fabrics & used as mattresses & blankets. Liz will share some of the history & meaning of the different elements of the quilts that she has been learning about.
