About the Event
This 2 hour workshop is perfect for beginners or as a refresher to using a sewing machine. Vicki will teach you all the essential basics for using a sewing machine, including maintenance & how to avoid some common mistakes. You’ll have a go & soon be feeling much more confident at the machine.
This workshop will prepare you to confidently use a sewing machine at home & to join one of our Beginner Level sewing workshops, like Sew A Tote Bag or Sew an Eye Mask.
We have a range of different shop sewing machines for you to use, which were all purchased second hand. Older sewing machines are often well built & can be affordable on a budget. Vicki will give her best advice for what to look out for if you’re looking to buy a used machine.
All materials & equipment for this workshop will be provided. This workshop is suitable for anyone who has never touched a sewing machine or who has tried & got a bit stuck.
Vicki Halliday is the co-owner of The Good Stitch. Before she opened the shop, she worked in theatre & higher education, as a Costume Supervisor, Wardrobe Manager & Costume Maker. Vicki loves sharing the joy of sewing & creating with textiles. She is a patient teacher who believes in the power of self-learning, guiding her students to find that Aha moment & to reach their sewing goals.
