About the Event

Beautiful Bargello embroidery often features shades of one hue across graphic, repeating motifs, stitched in natural wool tapestry yarn. The origins of Bargello embroidery are a little hazy & a little regal. Natalie of Bargello-a-GoGo has been inspired by a 20th Century revival to share her love for both the techniques & the history of Bargello in this workshop.

Bargello can be stitched on fabric or plastic canvas for different end uses. The fabric canvas is perfect for soft furnishings & the plastic is great for bags, plant pot holders & jewellery. In this workshop, you’ll be working on fabric canvas to make two pieces of Bargello embroidery that can be made into a pincushion, or two pincushions with a different backing fabric. Colour palettes of yarn & a needle are provided as well as four different designs to choose from.

This is a hand stitching workshop, with all materials supplied. No experience is necessary. The wool yarns used in this workshop & in Natalie’s kits are from the British company Appletons, who make an all-British product. Before being posted out from them, the entire production process takes place within 200 miles. We are advocates of natural fibres, but if you would prefer to use a vegan, non-wool alternative, please get in touch so we can arrange that.

Natalie was inspired by her discovery of 1970s Bargello to learn more about it. She created her business Bargello-a-GoGo to share her passion in the form of her own designs & kits as well as teaching the techniques. As well as Bargello, Natalie is a professional knitwear designer & skilful sewist, recently she’s been learning to use a pleating machine & stitching traditional smocking.
