Hitomezashi Sashiko with Liz Smith

Hitomezashi is a type of sashiko stitching, creating highly decorative patterns that look like weaving. Originally used for strengthening worn fabrics & garments, hitomazashi is beautiful for small accessories such as zippered pouches as well as larger cushions & on garments. Liz will show you how to use a grid & combinations of small straight stitches to create a number of different designs. As you add horizontal & vertical stitches, the patterns emerge.

This workshop will set you off to be able to independently complete your panel of stitching. All materials will be provided including reclaimed linen fabrics large enough to make a zippered pouch, needle case or similar small item. 

Your completed hitomazashi piece will be ideal to use in our Make A Zippered Pouch workshop.

This workshop is ideal if you have tried sashiko or embroidery before. If you are a beginner at any type of hand stitching or embroidery, we recommend that you join our Introduction to Sashiko workshop before this one.
