About the Event

Starting with scraps of fabrics & surprising materials like vegetable nets, Debra will demonstrate how to create a crazy patchwork base fabric to begin your leaf & butterfly or bee. You’ll learn easy ways to create exciting effects & edges with sparkly metallic thread on the sewing machine. Add your personal touch with beads or trims to bring your insects & leaves to life.

You can turn your creations into statement jewellery like broaches or necklaces, or affix to a ribbon or dowel for a home decoration. Or make a few more at home & create a gorgeous garland of leaves & insects.

All materials & equipment will be provided for this workshop, but you are welcome to bring your own special scraps, beads or broken jewellery to work with too. Experience of using a sewing machine & scissors are required for this workshop.

Debra Wade is a designer-maker who creates to commission in re-claimed materials & whose award-winning work is in magazines, international textile fairs & on TV. Currently a Stitch Festival tutor at Alexandra Palace & Islington Design Centre, she loves to share her skills in many textile crafts, art, and re-claimed jewellery. Debra recently led a community project to create 100 giant remembrance poppies by re-using footballs, old records, frying pans, knitting, bottles, plant pots, hub caps, vinyl flooring & more.
