About the Event
This beginner friendly, traditional form of embroidery uses the grid of gingham fabric to guide you where to place stitches. It’s also known as depression lace, Amish embroidery or chicken scratch & was popular in the 1930s - 1950s to decorate clothing & items in the home. It still looks fabulous on cushions, aprons, tea towels, bags & pouches or on collars & pockets & on children’s clothes. It’s a mindful, quiet & calming activity with gorgeous results. Even if you have never tried embroidery before, this is a low stakes way to start, and for those with some experience, try this relaxed, free-form approach or push the boundaries with trompe l'oeil & colour play effects.
Liz will be showing us some of the many design possibilities from a few simple stitches & you can choose from her stacks of gingham fabrics & embroidery threads. Liz will demonstrate all the techniques…
