About the Event
Using scraps of fabric & threads, Alison will show you how to create a unique-to-you piece of fabric & turn it into a book cover or small purse in this full-day workshop. You’ll get the best advice about colour choices & help to arrange the fabrics to best show them off. Alison will demonstrate how to decoratively stitch the layers together using straight & zig-zag stitches on the sewing machine & demonstrate free machine embroidery for you to have a go too.
Alison will help you to transform your fabric into an A5 book cover or a small purse, and talk about altering it further with painting & dying.
All equipment, fabrics & threads will be provided in this workshop, but you’re welcome to bring some special scraps that you’d like to work with.
Experience of using a sewing machine is required for this workshop.
A half-hour lunch break will be taken during this workshop & we encourage attendees to take a wander to a local cafe or have a browse in the nearby charity shops. Really because we want to know what treasure you’ve found there.
Alison McDonagh is a full time textile artist, working from the Sussex countryside & surrounded by sheep, home grown vegetables & the wildlife of the Downs. Her creative career has spanned art & music teaching, fashion knitwear in the 80s (we want to know more, please!) & her own style of textiles creation which is applied to all kinds of homeware & accessories. Alison has always used upcycled fabrics in her work as she wants to benefit charity shops and reduce landfill.
