Beginners Sewing: Pyjama Trousers

Learn to sew a pair of elastic waist trousers in this new workshop, perfect for beginners who are ready to make a garment. If you have attended our Introduction to Machine Sewing and Sew a Tote Bag classes, this is the perfect next step. Vicki will teach you how to use a pattern to cut the pieces & what notches are all about, how to neatly sew up your seams & add an elastic channel & sew neat hems. You’ll go home with your lovely finished trousers in just 3 hours & take lots of new sewing skills with you. A simple pattern like this can be used to make everyday trousers too, just use a linen or light denim or fun cotton print. Vicki will show you how you can make them even more versatile by adding pockets.

All materials are provided, including a choice of fabrics suitable for your trousers. Feel free to bring your own fabric if you already have some - it needs to be woven, not knit, & you’ll need 2m to 2.5m depending on the width of the fabric. The pattern fits a variety of sizes from hips 35” to 60”. You’ll sew on our Janome sewing machines & use all our equipment like scissors & pins. This class is ideal for anyone who has done our other introductory sewing classes or similar & is ready to sew garments.

Vicki Halliday is the co-owner of The Good Stitch. Before she opened the shop, she worked in theatre & higher education, as a Costume Supervisor, Wardrobe Manager & Costume Maker. Vicki loves sharing the joy of sewing & creating with textiles. She is a patient teacher who believes in the power of self-learning, guiding her students to find that Aha moment & to reach their sewing goals.
